Hi, I'm Sherry Ginsberg Davis and I live in Kensington, Brooklyn, NY with my husband, daughter and dog. I grew up in Brooklyn, and have taken art classes at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Brooklyn College, Hunter College, Cooper Union, the New York Academy of Art and the School of Visual Arts. I've worked as a desktop and computerized production artist, and, for the last 7 years, as a substitute teacher in a NYC public school.

Growing up, I saw and felt details – the plastic rattle, sidewalk cracks, stones that scratched colors. I stared at available graphics and art that inspired me, like the good guys logo, and Curious George and Mad Magazine. I saw things a little differently than my family and the kids around me. I drew compulsively.

Much later, starting with stamp carving and stencils,  I decided to re-explore art, first with sketching, using my natural propensity towards detail and precision; then open up, allowing randomness into my process.

When painting on ceramic tile, I can't see the outcome while working, color opacity is impossible to judge, and the gloppy paint is tricky to apply. The baked results can be touched.

With watercolor, I keep the 'mistakes' in my initial sketch. Sometimes, I start with ink, allowing it to run with the paint.

I am also creating childrens books and illustrations. I have mostly been working in watercolor and ink, with cut-outs and stencils.

My work has been shown at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, several local restaurants, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where, in February 2009,I won a competition with the Brooklyn Philharmonic to design a program cover for a series. In addition to creating children's book story proposals and illustrations, I am currently working on a ceramic tile series involving street-life in New York.
